Wake up Fancy wake up Fancy Dan Get yourself up out of bed put a guitar in your hand Don't you know you gotta get going gotta get them juices flowing right on through Cause time keeps a-wasting and you got some chasing to do You could use something to do Remember when your daddy said now son it's time to get cranking Put your boots on get a job there's money to be making He knew what he was saying got used to obeying that's for sure Since there's always more to be done you gotta use your feet to run right out the door That's what they're there for For years you been sleeping sleeping away the day So much time up in your mind with nothing more to say You gotta lift your heavy head and eat your daily bread before it molds Cause it's time to make a new plan since you got too good of a hand just to fold Now you know you been told See you been playing and having too much fun You've enjoyed playing but them playing days are done Put your toys back in the box go fetch yourself some socks make sure they're clean Cause you ain't gonna go no place if you keep that pretty face from being seen Lord knows it should be seen Do you hear that bell ringing well it ain't gonna stop That bell's gonna keep ringing whether you want it to or not So I guess you better get started gotta mend that broken heart and make it tick Cause it's there for a reason and this could be the season to get fixed You should try it just for kicks C'mon now wake up Fancy wake up Fancy Dan Get yourself up out of bed put a guitar in your hand Don't you know you gotta get going gotta get them juices flowing righton through Cause time keeps a-wasting and you got some chasing to do You could use something to do

What You Do 03:00
When you're walking you know what you do When you're walking you know what you do And when you're talking you know what you do My jaws a-dropping when you do what you do My eyes are popping, the traffic's stopping I can't stop watching all the things that you do I sure do love to watch the way you move I sure do love to watch the way you move I can't but help to love the way you move You really know just how to use that groove I'm goin crazy, will you have my baby You do amaze me with the way you move I can't believe I know the way you love I can't believe I know the way you love Girl you know you're all I'm dreaming of I can't forget about the way you love My mind's been blown, I'm not alone And I've been stoned by the way you love You know I'm falling when you do what you do You know I'm falling when you do what you do I'm even bawling from those things that you do Well I keep calling for those things that you do I'm on my knees, say honey please You part them seas with the things that you do Girl you know you really use them curves Girl you know you really use them curves Girl you know that no man deserves Just the thought of it is so absurd What about those lips, and those hips My mind's eclipsed when you use those curves When you're shaking you know what you do When you're shaking you know what you do And when we making you know what you do Ain't no use faking all those things that you do You got me going and you're a-knowing No need for slowing all the things that you do When you're walking you know what you do When you're walking you know what you do And when you're talking you know what you do My jaws a-dropping when you do what you do My eyes are popping, the traffic's stopping I can't stop watching all the things that you do

So Long 03:06
Well she's the best but I forget a-sometimes I lose my head It's been so long since I even slept The things I’ll do to act like a fool I guess it's something I learned in school It's been so long since I broke the rules But I got out a little proud she kept her voice a little loud It was so long ago I heard her sound And it goes on for her not for me When I was lost she kindly said to leave it be And now it's gone to find a way in the sea And I was wronged but now it's time for me to leave and go away A life of sin will do you in until you can't even begin It's been so long since I did what I did It was like a dream it was nothing mean but it was worse than it seemed It was so long ago she was my queen But I knew it wasn't true at least not enough for you It was so long ago I knew what to do And it goes on for her not for me When I was lost she kindly said to leave it be And now it's gone to find a way in the sea And I was wronged but now it's time for me to leave and go away I climbed a fence to pay the rent until I went where I been sent It was so long ago I did what I meant It gets so hot it comes a lot they say it's worse than being shot It was so long ago I was sent to rot

One in the morning and I don't need anymore I got enough in me with my feet on the floor and I tried, well I tried You said you might meet me when you finish your chores and I been up waiting and I done this before all the time, everytime What was I thinking what was I drinking My eyes stopped blinking when my ship started sinking What was I thinking when I ever started with you Here comes a couple and they making me ill back from the opera didn't get their fill of the night, it ain't right I'm just a simple guy with one or two thoughts and you're so complicated with everything that you got in your life, what a life What was I thinking what was I drinking My eyes stopped blinking when my ship started sinking What was I thinking when I ever started with you I even went and got myself a new pair of jeans and now you'll never see em cause you're nothing but mean and so cold, freezing cold I had my haircut and I bought a new comb but I'd a-been better off a-stayin at home on my own, all alone What was I thinking what was I drinking My eyes stopped blinking when my ship started sinking What was I thinking when I ever started with you What was I doing who was I fooling Why was I drooling when I shoulda been cooling What was I doing when I ever started with you

Ain’t no question about it you know you’re on my mind I been wondering about you and how you’re spending your time Ain’t no simple way around it I still wish you were mine I been staying up late cause I can’t sleep when I’m crying I want to do something useful but there ain’t no point in trying Because my head is a mess and my brain’s an egg that I’m frying When I look at the TV there’s nothing I want to see So I put on a record and then I’m counting to three But when I hear the needle dropping it’s stabbing me I take a walk outside to get a breath of fresh air It don’t seem to be working nature’s got nothing to share I’m telling a tree my story but he don’t seem to care I hear some bird singing sad songs it’s that time of year He got dread in his voice cause winter’s getting near Well I wish I could join him and fly away from here

By The Shore 03:25
All the people like to think so They got a hell of a lot to prove Yet their feet can hardly move They'll confuse you and abuse you Well I'll be leaving them behind right by the shore In the meantime it might seem fine While they're standing on that spirit til she's gone boy she's gone Til you're tired uninspired Better leave it all behind right by the shore By the shore right by the shore Better learn to start swimming let the devil keep on fishing Well the water it's like a daughter You gotta leave the rest behind right by the shore In the morning there’s a warning Better open up your ears boy you gotta shed your fears In the nighttime that's the right time Ripe for leaving it all behind right by the shore Well it seems so I believe so There's a whole lot more than this but you gotta turn your wrist Leave it open here's to hoping and to leaving it all behind right by the shore By the shore right by the shore There's so many ways to turn let the water heal your burn It'll soothe you and will move you Just to leave it all behind right by the shore All the prophets filled their pockets They were spilling out their heads til the people all got fed They moved on up and gone They had to leave it all behind right by the shore Yeah the river it's a sliver But it's deeper than you think boy you gotta take a drink And to realize what it feels like Just to leave it all behind right by the shore By the shore right by the shore You don't need a boat or fin you just gotta get right in Well it's better when it's wetter You gotta leave it all behind right by the shore

Use Me 02:28
All you red-headed women and you yellow brown and black From what I can tell there's not one thing that you lack I like all your colors you sure do make things bright So why don't we paint the town tonight You're like a pretty picture but I love the way you move So move this way honey we'll find something to do See I could use just a little of your touch That don't seem to be asking for too much Call me when you want me do with me what you like And when you're through tell me to take a hike Cause I could keep you busy I could fill your time And the best part is it won't cost you a dime Yeah I got a lot to offer I got a lot to give And I could show you a brand new way to live See no one's ever used up any of my skills And I could work for you better than a pill I don't come up with no stories I sure don't tell no lies You can tell I mean it just by looking into my eyes I see you and you're pretty it's so hard to look away If you were wearing rags you'd still be making my day But I'll bet you clean up real nice fancy as can be But I'm sorry to say you'll never be fancy as me See I could be just what you're looking for And if I'm not you can show me to the door It don't hurt to try me what do you got to lose Cause I might have something you could use I just might have something you could use

She got one of the best frowns around but she doesn't even know She leaves her roots down in the ground and she keeps her branches low Well I don't know if I'd miss her if she never swung my way But as it stands now I got plans until my dying day She got one of the meanest stares around and believe me I should know If I don't do what I'm supposed to then those eyes will tell me so And boy I've never seen colder not once in my whole life For when she sees then I will freeze but she'll always be my wife She got one of the cruelest tongues around and boy she likes to talk She throws her words hard at you man they'll hit you like a rock I guess I should be used to it I've heard it all before But what she brings well it still sings and it bruises to the core She got one of the tightest grips around and she'll crush you in her hands Just when you try to get away she'll snatch you back again And she moves rather quickly a lot quicker than you think And she'll have fun when you jump the gun then she'll catch you on the brink She got one of the best frowns around but she doesn't even know She leaves her roots down in the ground and she keeps her branches low Well I don't know if I'd miss her if she never swung my way But as it stands now I got plans until my dying day

Sore Heart 04:16
Well you walked in and sat right down there with a friend who only frowned And all I could do was stare at you I could have looked the other way and never took the time of day It would have been the smarter thing to do You said hello and you blinked your eyes that's all it took I could have died I didn't hear whatever else you said I got a sore heart and my brain's been torn apart And my gut's been trampled on for weeks There's not much left from this here theft I'm not real sure of what else I got We played the box and we danced a bit and I was lost but didn't quit And you invited me to take the lead It got so easy to spin you round there like a breeze blowing off the ground So I settled up my tab and put on my coat We drove so fast to look for home and we went past where I had grown But I'd forgotten who I used to be I got a sore heart and my brain's been torn apart And my gut's been trampled on for weeks There's not much left from this here theft When you took the most there was to take You had me hooked right from the start but then you took my only heart And left me wishing for what I gave away And it's too late to get it back if I had a crate filled up with cash I never could buy back all that you stole If you stop to think of all you lose, I'd rather drink than have to choose The things you keep and the things that are for sale

Rich man can always take a cab ride, rich man he doesn't like to walk Rich man got one hell of a bad side, when a rich man gotta walk a couple blocks Rich man buys coffee every morning, rich man eats several meals a day For rich man food's never ever boring and a rich man will throw what's left away Rich man don't care about no ticket, rich man can always pay the fee Rich man never tell no cop to stick it, cause a rich man never needs to disagree Well we're all going down to that same part of town Cause that same part of town is where we're bound Though some may get there first, but it could be a whole lot worse And you don't need to drive a hearse to get around Rich man can always make an appointment, rich man will get the pills he needs Rich man gets all the proper ointments, cause a rich man's got friends with PhD's Rich man never pawned his daddy's wristwatch, rich man never taken nothing back Rich man never worn his way through his socks cause a rich man never buys from off the rack Rich man takes all kinds of vacation, rich man goes when he wants to go Rich man gets his ticket at the station cause a rich man has never been told no Well we're all going down to that same part of town Cause that same part of town is where we're bound Though some may get there first, but it could be a whole lot worse And you don't need to drive a hearse to get around Rich man got plenty of entertainment, rich man goes out night after night Rich man he sure don't got to be patient, cause a rich man is always treated right Rich man drinks scotch, champagne, and fine wine, rich man don't like the taste of beer Rich man has happy hour at any time and a rich man buys bottles by the year Rich man can always send her flowers, rich man can send em everyday Rich man spends money every hour, but a rich man can't think of what to say Well we're all going down to that same part of town Cause that same part of town is where we're bound Though some may get there first, but it could be a whole lot worse And you don't need to drive a hearse to get around

Let It Go 03:05
Ain't gonna take it with me when I go That's the only thing that I'll ever know And I'll be waiting on the tips of my toes For a sign at any time I've been waiting on a chance to repair It seems to me to be more than fair A little something just to prove you're there Using space and taking place You're gonna have to learn to do what you can Find what it takes that's gonna make you a man And you'll find out you gotta lend out your hand Let it stretch and play some fetch You gotta read the writing on the wall And not pretend you never saw it at all Ain't no use sitting there a-trying to stall It's your time so write a rhyme I know I don't need to remind you when it all comes down somebody will find you but we're not there yet it's not even behind you so find something to lose We're all waiting to be put to use Moving, wiggling like we're way to loose Someone needs to come and pull that tooth Take it out and let it shout To take a step you gotta move your feet And stop looking for what's in your reach And soon enough you'll have something to teach Let it go let it go Let it go gotta get your ear to listen close (let it go) gonna wanna try to make the most (let it go) gonna need to wash your hands with soap (let it go) gonna wanna untie that rope (let it go) gotta give yourself the room to grow (let it go) gonna have to never need to know (let it go) let it go let it go

I wanna be born I wanna be born I wanna be born this time I wanna be born I wanna be born I don't wanna be feeling fine I wanna be born I wanna be born in line Well I wanna be born I don't wanna be wasting time I said it before I said it before I said it before one night I said it before I said it before I said it before the light I said it before I said it before alright Well I said it before but I gotta put up more of a fight It's gonna be cold it's gonna be cold it's gonna be cold this I know It's gonna be cold it's gonna be cold it's gonna be cold it'll show It's gonna be cold it's gonna be cold and much more Well it's gonna be cold and it's gonna get old so let's go I'll whistle my way I'll whistle my way I'll whistle my way around I'll whistle my way I'll whistle my way I'll whistle my way downtown I'll whistle my way I'll whistle my way in the ground Well I'll whistle my way but I won't whistle away the sound I was pushing real hard just trying to get out Couldn't sit tight I was ready to shout I finally broke through as I opened my eyes Took a look around and to my surprise I knew I was born I was glad to be born Here I go I started making sense and finding my way Trying to figure out how to fill up my day But all that thinking never did me no good I only realized how to do what I could But I wasn't born I forgot to be born Like before But then one day I just gave it all up Something in the water coming out of my cup I drank it all down and decided right there To find what I got and remember to share And go and get born and try to stay born Like I know So if anybody asks just tell them I'm gone I gotta keep moving I been sitting too long You can find me right down that road up ahead And I'll be making sure I'm doing what I said And keep being born and always be born Here I go And I'll be singing I wanna be born I wanna be born I wanna be born this time I wanna be born I wanna be born I don't wanna be feeling fine I wanna be born I wanna be born in line Well I wanna be born I don't wanna be wasting time

about

The Fancy Dan Band's debut album, Born Fancy, was recorded over 3 days in the summer of 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee. Cheyenne Medders engineered the recording session at The Court Studio. Despite the whirlwind road trip and recording session, the album was actually conceived in 2005 and took years of family planning before it was ready to be born in early 2009.
